After getting all excited at the prospect of biodegradable plastic-ish bags for picking up the dog poo, I realised all I was going to be doing was consuming more stuff. And doing my best to not use plastic bags (although I admit the odd few do get into the house).
The solution - ask the family. Now when the Object of My Affections' ma and pa come over they bring us their excess plastic bags. Problem solved - I am not consuming something I would not otherwise need, we don't increase our plastic bag usage and we use up some that would otherwise go to rubbish.
Good solution - am vaguely surprised that it was not immediately obvious (well, to me, anyway)...

Hello. This post is likeable, and your blog is very interesting, congratulations :-). I will add in my blogroll =). If possible gives a last there on my blog, it is about the Wireless, I hope you enjoy. The address is http://wireless-brasil.blogspot.com. A hug.
Thank you for your kind words - sometimes I feel like I am talking to myself (not that there's anything wrong with that!) I can't find your address - said it had moved?
hi
im doing compact (im a member of the google compactoz group).
ive need to buy some containers for food i was wondering if u had any ideas where i could get some from. Do op shops have them and if so are the clean/hygienic enough to use?
sorry this doesnt really have much to do with the blog
Hmmm. Putting a biodegradable item (dog poo) in a plastic bag where it can't return to the earth. Baffling and a tad silly don't you think?
Hi goldfish - re food containers - if it is for you I would go for glass jars from op shops - plastic can degrade. I have bought a few big coffee jars for op shops - find them useful. For dog food I use recycled takeaway containers (yes, I confess we do eat takeaway - but at least the containers get used a lot).
Also might be worth asking friends/relatives/neighbours re old coffee jars etc - or ask on Freecycle. As they say, ask and you shall receive!
Ouch anonymous. As you can see I have struggled with the dog poo business - if anyone else has a better idea of what to do with the poo when you are out for a walk, I would be delighted to hear it. And yes, I did try paper bags, and yes, the result was ugly ...
Goldfish re food containers: Many bakeries, ice cream stores, delis etc have bulk items that come in large food grade containers. In a previous house I lived in we canvassed these kinds of local businesses to see if we could get their discards when they were finished with the contents. They worked well to store bulk items for a large household eg: dried beans, rice, bread making flour etc.
