food business

Thanks to Bryan at My Fair Share who very kindly donated me a copy of ‘The ethics of what we eat‘ by Peter Singer and Jim Mason. A thought-provoking book about what we eat, the methods of food production and their environmental and animal welfare impact.

And if you suspect that the truly ethical option is to be vegan who only eats organic food, then you are about right.

It is a well written, accessible book that will make you think differently about a lot of things. Not too preachy. In the spirit of the Compact I would like to share the joy. If you would like me to send it to you, leave a comment with your email address.

I would love to read this book as this is a subject that I grapple with frequently. I am a meat eater but I don't want to be! Maybe reading this book will give me the push I need to go veg.
BTW I have been lurking here for awhile now and really enjoy this blog.

Hi Alana, I suggest reading The Omnivore's Dilemma as a counter-point to Singer's book. I have just finished it - it's very thought provoking and argues quite differently from Singer.

Happy to lend it once my partner has finished it - next week perhaps? You have my gmail, and should be easy enough since we work in the same building :-)

And ShinyYoga - yes - pls post up some veganism sites. Am off two minds - happy to ditch the eggs, but I don't know if I can let go of cheese, yoghurt and milk in my tea. But definitely interested in some vegan recipes.

Reading this one at the moment, and even though I'm vegan I'm finding it highly interesting/horrifying.

I happened upon No More Stuff today. Enjoying it so far, and have posted about and linked to it in my blog (which has some content crossover).

Hope to read from you again soon.

Simon
